Christ * suffered for you, leaving an example so that you would follow in His steps.

Christ Jesus, who was in the form of God, *

did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.

He instead emptied Himself by taking the form of a servant †

and being born in human likeness. *

Being found in human form,

He humbled Himself †

by becoming obedient to death, *

even death on a cross.

For this reason, God exalted Him †

to the highest place *

and gave Him the name above every name.

So that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, *

in heaven, on the earth, and under the earth.

And every tongue will confess *

"Jesus Christ is Lord!" to the glory of God the Father.

The Second Epistle of Peter 1:19-21

So we have the prophetic word made more sure. A word which you do well to pay attention to, like a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. But above all, know this. No prophecy of Scripture came to be out of the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy was never made by an act of human will, but people spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Intercessory Prayers of Petition

The Christ is the joy for all who hope in Him, we pray to You:

Look upon us with favor, Lord, and answer us.

Faithful witness and firstborn of those who have died, Your blood has washed us of our sins,

– flood our minds with your wondrous deeds.

Look upon us with favor, Lord, and answer us.

You have called some to herald and proclaim your Gospel,

– let them be found faithful and diligent to embody and speak the mysteries of Your Kingdom for Your people.

Look upon us with favor, Lord, and answer us.

King of Peace, send Your Spirit onto the leaders of our world,

– turning their eyes towards the needs of the poor, marginalized, and oppressed.

Look upon us with favor, Lord, and answer us.

Counselor and Protector of those suffering discrimination because of their race, color, class, ability, gender, sex, language, or religion,

– may Your will be done that they receive recognition of their rights and dignity.

God, who wonderfully works reconciliation of all people through Your Son. † We plead to You, increase the faith of Christian people everywhere. * May we prepare for the approaching Easter celebrations with ardent faith, sincere devotion, and love together with Him who lives and reigns in unity with You and the Holy Spirit. God, now and forever. Amen.
