Why do the nations say, *

"Where is their God?"

But our God is in heaven, *

and He does whatever He wants.

Their idols are of silver and gold, *

the work of human hands.

They have mouths yet cannot speak, *

ears yet cannot hear, *

noses yet cannot smell.

They have hands yet cannot touch, †

and only silence comes from their throats.

The artisans who create idols will become like them, *

My soul ✛ magnifies the greatness of the Lord; *

my spirit bursts, rejoicing in God my Savior.

For He knew the humility of His servant. *

From today all generations will call me blessed.

The Almighty has done great things for me, *

and holy is His name.

He has mercy for those who fear Him, *

from generation to generation.

He has shown the strength of His arm, *

and scattered the proud for the thoughts of their hearts.

He has torn the mighty from their thrones, *

Intercessory Prayers of Petition

Beloved children of God, let us pray to Christ the Redeemer, who came to save all people. Let us say with confidence:

Come, Lord Jesus!

Lord Christ, You who took on our own flesh and, through some mystery, You made known to the world the glory of Your divinity,

– by Your advent, give us life.

Come, Lord Jesus!

You who took upon Yourself our weaknesses,

– grant us Your mercy.

Come, Lord Jesus!

You who came in humility being born a child in a manger, and redeemed the world from sin,

– when You come again redeem us of our faults, and restore all that is broken.

Almighty and merciful God, † do not let our earthly efforts hinder us on our journey to meet Your Son. * Instead, draw us onward with heavenly wisdom and instruction. Prepare our hearts to see Jesus, to welcome Him, and allow us to accept His invitation to share life with Him who lives and reigns in unity with You and the Holy Spirit. God, now and forever. Amen.
